John McClean, 60, Englishman, Dies at home at Poston

John R. McClean, aged 60, died at his home at Poston last evening about (***, illegible) o'clock. Heart trouble caused his death. The funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the M.E. Church at Chauncey and burial will be made in the Nye Cemetery. Mr. McClean leaves three stepsons and one step daughter. His wife died almost a year ago. Mr. McClean was born in England. One of his stepsons, George Wilson, lives here at Chauncey and his other step-children live at Poston. He was a miner and a highly respected citizen.

Margaret McLean, youngest daughter of Adam, born in Glen Roy, Ohio on 11/10/1898, died at her home in Poston, Ohio on June 30th, 1920. She was aged 21 years, 1 month, 10 days. She left behind a son, her mother, step-father, three brothers; George, John, and Charles, and one sister; Mrs. Herb Rivers and a multitude of friends. She was kind and affectionate even through her eight weeks of suffering. When asked if she was afraid to die, she replied that she was not afraid to die and she was ready.

 

Family note states she died in the "old Doc Simma house" on "Peach Ridge" near Athens, Ohio.

Adam McLean

ATHENS - Adam C. McLean, 58, of Athens Routs 3, Bean Hollow, died Wednesday morning after he became ill while on the job at Ohio University. Mr. McLean, employed as a plumber for the University, was taken to O'Blenness Memorial Hospital by the Athens Fire Department Emergency Squad. He was the son of Mrs. Lenna Bradbury of Athens Route and the late George McLean. Also surviving are his wife, Fern Hoisington McLean; a son, George of the home; a sister, Mrs. Donald (Sarah) Wolfe of Athens Route 1. Services are being completed by the Jagers and Sons Funeral Home.

Born in Jacksonville, she was the daughter of late Carl and Flossie Russell Hoisington. Mrs. McLean formerly worked at Athens Lake Motel, Ohio University snack bar and the former Bromley Hall. She was a member of East Athens Church of Christ and was a graduate of Greens Run High School. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George and Diana McLean of Athens; a granddaughter, Bridgette Dawn McLean; a grandson, Sean Patrick Scott McLean; a sister, Mrs. Phillip (Ruth) Powell of Glouster Route 3; a step sister, Betty Landinbach of Massachusetts; three step brothers, John Pierpoint of Glouster Route 3; Robert Pierpoint of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Tom Pierpoint of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Helen O'Nail of Chauncey and Evelyn (Dutch) Jackson of Nelsonville. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Adam McLean, in 1973. "Glouster - James McLean, 47, of 540 Elaine Ave., Columbus, a former Glouster resident, died unexpectedly Tuesday at Doctor's North Hospital, Columbus. Born in Poston, he was the son of the late Charles (Dick) and Florence McLain McLean. He was a self-employed electrician. He was a member of the FOE Aerie 297 of Columbus. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He is survived by two sons, Jim of Athens and Paul of Millfield; two daughters, Ruth of Dorris, Calif., and Kathy Marsh of Athens; four grandchildren; a step-daughter, Deanie perry of Athens, a brother, Bill of Hilliard; and two sisters; Janet Lawrence of Amesville, and Deloris North of Circleville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Guinther-VanFossen Funeral Home with burial at Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., Thursday.
